Coastal Protocol

Honoring Coast Salish traditions as we welcome the world

The Coastal Protocol is a cultural gathering that celebrates the Coast Salish people whose ancestral lands will host World Cup activities in our region. This event reflects long-standing traditions of potlatching, honoring, sharing and relationship building between Tribal nations and invited guests. Coastal Protocol takes place during every Canoe Journey, welcoming visiting Tribes to our shores.

This year, in celebration of the historic World Cup, we will host a Protocol to symbolically celebrate the arrival of visiting nations. Invited Tribes will share traditional songs and dances with all guests to celebrate the beauty and diversity of the region’s local Native American heritage and canoe culture.

Visitors are invited to respectfully observe, learn and participate when invited in this vibrant expression of Native culture.
