May is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIWP) Awareness Month.
The Puyallup Tribe of Indians is passionate about protecting all loved ones, and stands in making sure the community knows how to take action.
Puyallup Tribal Member and Anti-Trafficking Program Manager Carolyn DeFord of the Community Domestic Violence Program (CDVAP) said raising awareness about MMIWP within the local community is always one of the department’s goals, but it is especially important ahead of the upcoming World Cup events.
“People will be coming from all over the country, and Washington state has led the way for MMIW since the very beginning of its movement in the United States,” DeFord said. “It’s really important to us, to the Tribe, to the community and to Indian Country that this issue stays at the forefront.”
Here you will find resources to assist in the efforts of keeping informed, preventing and reporting of vulnerable loved ones who have gone missing.
